My first 5K...the Torch Run

So the working out has been going so well. I have Rugby to keep me in shape and I go to the gym a lot! One of the best things about Alfred is that he runs, bikes, hikes, swims, and does tons of exercising to stay in shape. He agreed to run a 5K with me. I never thought I would meet a guy willing to do this stuff with me. We try and do something active almost everyday. He even promised to start running with me!I was a little unsure if I wanted to run with him. He has been running for 2 years and will probably think I am a snail. Also, getting all red and sweaty in front of the guy you are trying to impress isn't my cup of tea! However, I wanted to spend the day with him and it would be motivating to have him there. Originally the plan was to run in Seward with Suzy and Jarod. They had to leave town due to a death in the family. I still wanted to challenge myself so we changed the plans and ran it in Anchorage instead. I was super nervous. I have never been very athletic and working out for a few months didn't mean I was ready for this! What if I collapsed in front of Alfred or quit in the middle?? I had a little anxiety before the start, but I hid it well!! We got started and kept a nice slow pace that he said was good for him ( I was thinking yeah sure I am so slow...this can't be good for you). I did take 2 walking breaks for just a minute or two. There was a big hill at the end that about killed me too, but we finished together around 42 minutes. Pretty slow, but it was my first time. All I cared about was that I finished. It was so cool of him to run with me. We will have to do this more often!
Later that day we decided to camp in Seward anyway. This was one of my favorite nights with Alfred so far. We set up our tent and headed into downtown to shoot some pool. I am usually pretty good at pool so I figured that I would have him beat no problem. This was one of the first times I realized that Alfred is really good at...well...everything!! He beat me several times then we played as a team. We made a great team..he hit all the balls in while I drank my beer...lol! No, I'm kidding, I made a couple shots I'm sure!!
A pretty good band was playing at the little dive bar. We had a few drinks and decided to dance. There was only a few people dancing, but we thought "ahh what the heck". No one will know us in Seward if we look silly anyways. My favorite thing about the evening was this. A creepy guy that had been dancing and acting like a fool came up and asked Alfred if he could dance with his girl. Alfred thought about it for a quick second, pulled me in tighter, and said "no". So cute!! We had such a great time. It poured rain on us all night in the tent, but totally worth it!! What an awesome night!!
